Surgery went well......

Hello everyone,

It's me Jenna. So today went good. Mommy came to see me early this morning, while daddy slept in a little. We played and smiled and watched Spongebob together. Later in the morning we watched Stuart Little the movie, which was fun. No new changes with me today since I was having surgery. Daddy came by later in the morning, he felt much better after getting much needed rest. Dr. E came by and marked my side for surgery so they would work on the correct side, I smiled and blew kisses at him and he blew them back. I love him so much, he has been really good to me and mommy and daddy. They came to get me around 12:30 to take me down for surgery. This ride was fun, I sat up in bed the whole time and looked around at the scenary on the way down. They were able to get me too sleep easily, and Dr. Putnam (GI) did my scope first, which was a success. He went out and talked to my mommy and daddy and showed them pictures of my stomach, which looks great. He said that it has improved greatly and the ulcer is healed enough for me to start food in my belly, yay! So, sometime next week they are going to change my tube from a NJ to a NG in my stomach. Hope this goes well, if I tolerate it, then in a few days after that they will switch me to by mouth. We will see. He said that I will have to stay on my two stomachs for a while until I am doing well, and if I go back on my aspirin, they will have to decide what I should take to protect my stomach, since aspirin can irritate it a lot. My surgery went well, they got started around 1:50 and were finished by 3. Dr. E talked to mommy and daddy in a special room while they finished me up in the OR and took me upstairs. He said that he was happy that my stomach was better and said I did very well in surgery, there were no "hiccups". He said that he is not sure exactly what happened, it is just possible that the original surgery did not have enough sutures placed to keep the diaphragm down. He said that my xray looks great and the attending on the floor today said it looks amazing. He said that the original surgery just had one row of sutures, which would typically probably been fine, but I needed more, so he plicated quite a bit so the diaphragm would stay down. He is very confident that I will do well from the surgery and feels that in a few days I will start to show great improvements in my respiratory status. We will see in a few days, tonight they are just letting me rest and will start my food in my belly back up tomorrow and depending on how awake I am, start to lower my vent settings. I am at 20 for a rate right now, when I was on 5 before on occasion, so hopefully I will start to feel better soon. WHen I came back on the floor after surgery, my heartrate and bp jumped up high because I was upset and aggitated, so pain team was called since I have an epidural for pain, to see if I could get more medicine. They came by, debated on giving me more, to see if I would calm down and take well to the medicine in the pump, but were advised quickly by mommy and the docs that I go through pain medicine like candy. SO, they said it was ok for more, which helped calm me down. Mommy and Daddy went to dinner at this point with MeMe and Pawpaw and Aunt Missy. They had a good time and came back to see me this evening. I have slept most of the evening, but woke a little bit ago upset and my heartrate and bp keep going up again because I am upset, nervous and hurting from surgery. So, they started my Morphine drip to help keep me comfortable and gave a little extra medicine through my epidural, hopefully this will help soon. I am going to get some rest and mommy and daddy are too. Mommy will probably keep you posted through the weekend on how I do, I promise i will behave, I just like attention a lot :) I miss everyone and love everyone for keeping up with me and praying for me. See you later. Mommy and Daddy hope that I am home in time for Halloween, then I will show off my cute fairy outfit. Buh Bye

Love, Jenna
