So the chain reaction begins.....

So the fellow Derrick just came in a little bit ago with information regarding Jenna's blood cultures. So, as I told you before she was Gram + Cocci in the subclavian line. Well now the blood from her PICC line came back and it was positive too. So, it is in her blood. They have resent cultures from the PICC line again, to see if they show growth. If they do, then they will assess if they should pull the PICC line, in these cases they typically will. But if it comes back negative they will not take it out. So, he went ahead and began the Vancomyocin regimen. Her temp a little bit ago was 102.4. So, up a little from before, they gave her Tylenol to her, so hopefully this will help. Everytime I pull her up in bed, her little back is so hot. Which is mommy's indication she has a fever, I don't need a thermometer to know that. So, now we are waiting to see if the PICC grows anything again. In reference to the blood cultures already positive, in 24 hours we should find out if it is Strep Pneumonia or Staphlacoccous Aerous. He said in 60-70% of cases, it is Strep. And seeing that Jenna already has the symptoms of pneumonia (fever, hazy xray with a pleural effusion (fluid) and positive cultures), Derrick feels this is most likely what she has. But we will see tomorrow evening what comes back. And 24 hours after that result, it will come back what type of antibiotic will kill the growth. But. they do not want to wait, so that is why they started the Vancomyocin, it typically kills everything. We will see. We asked since Jenna developed C-diff in her stool in the past with lots of antibiotics, is her risk higher this time. He said most likely not, but it is possible that she will still develop it. Great. We asked what affect does this have on surgery being Monday. He said that she will be on the regimen of antibiotics for 7 days, and seeing that she is positive with cultures, he does not foresee it being that early in the week, probably later. Just as I figured. But just as long as this goes away and we move on. So, now she is resting with Daddy in the bed, hopefully she will be asleep soon. So, at least now they are aware of what is there and they are able to treat it. We will just keep praying that it will go away soon and her fever gets under control. So, just wanted to add another quick note on what is happening. Keep us in your prayers, especially babygirl and we will keep you posted on her status. Talk soon.

Love, Jenny, Justin and Jenna

  5. Dear Heavenly Father,
I pray to for Jenna and her family. Jenna is a strong (Yo GABBA GABBA) lol. God I know everything happens for a reason. I just wanted you to know that you will and way is the only way. I pray that she recovers soon. I pray that her Mommy and Daddy can play in water and laugh again really soon. For thy is the KINGDOM, THE POWER AND THE GLORY FOREVER AMEN.

  6. Have been following Jenna's journey for the past week or so! Please know that although I do not know you or your family, I have kept sweet Jenna in my thoughts and prayers.

My sister's beautiful baby boy will be undergoing open heart surgery on Sept. 4th for a congenital heart defect discovered a couple of week's ago. The only sign that something was wrong was his poor weight gain (he's 17 monhts). My sister, a nurse, has been adamant about weight checks b/c she just felt like something wasn't right.

Doctor's can't believe that Eli is as old as he is w/o having shown any distress. He has an atrioventricular canal defect with malformed valves. They will be closing the large hole in the center of his heart and the plan is to use his own heart tissue to creat mitral and tricuspid valves. At this point, basically all of his blood (both the oxygenated an unoxygenated) has been mixing contributing to his poor growth.

The defect was finally detected b/c he has begun to go into heart failure and the one large valve that was formed is beginning to fail. His little heart can no longer support his growing body. Apparently this condition is usually fatal for most babies by 3-4 months of age, so Eli is truly a miracle baby.

While I am a bit overwhelmed at all the complications that Jenna has experienced, I know that this is the very real reality of what can happen and oddly, enough, it provides me a bit of comfort. (I'm the kind of gal that likes to be aware of all the possible scenarios!)

Sorry so long, but just know I'm praying for your sweet daughter as well as my precious nephew!

  9. As always, we just keep praying for Jenna and for you guys (Jenny & Justin) everyday, many times a day. We continue to keep watch both here and on facebook, just praying for good news. I am glad you received our card and though the gift was nothing comparable to what you are having to deal with, I hope every little contribution helps in some way. There are so many words, yet not enough. Just know that there are SO many people back home praying for Jenna, for you as parents, for the doctors and nurses seeing over Jenna, for everyone. Take care, God is watching over you all. Love, Michelle & John Johnson
