A little cranky.....

August 1, 2009

Today we arrived on the floor once rounds began. They stated that Jenna became aggitated again last night after we left and they had to give her more sedation to calm her. They are afraid at this point that she will end up extabating(pulling the vent tube) out of herself. So they are just trying to keep her calm. They said that her levels looked good through the night, they are starting diuretics on her today and are still trying to wean her off of the Nitric. The goal is by midnight tonight. Some children do not always tolerate it bloodpressure wise and oxygen wise (numbers drop), so we will see. They said that since she is improving so well, they still want to be cautious, but would like to start weaning her off of the vent today and be off by tomorrow. They said that if begins to not tolerate it, they will hold off. So we will see. After we arrived, she became aggitated again. The nurse had re-positioned her because she was sideways in the bed and her feet were dangling over the side. Plus her lungs sounded full of fluid so she chose to re-position her. Bad idea, Jenna was mad for about the next couple of hours. She kept re-positioning herself down in the bed, pulling her restraints up to get out. So they gave her nore morphine, two doses of Versed, and increased her fentnyl a couple of times. I feel like they have given her so much, they could knock over a horse! She is so tough and fighting to get out so bad. So, they have finally been able to relax her and she has been asleep for the past couple of hours, thank goodness. She is sideways again in the bed, position of choice since she cannot get on her belly. The respiratory therapist has starting lowering her nitric more and they have lowered her vent twice already and she is still tolerating it. So, still improving, but they are taking their time. They hope to continue to get her off of the medicines and we will see from their where she stands. So, we are going to let her keep resting. She is also peeing really good from the diuretics. This is a good sign that her kidneys are functioning.

We will keep everyone posted on how she is doing. Thanks for all of the love, support and prayers.

Love, Jenny Justin and Jenna

  1. Just wanted to let you know that I am still praying for Jenna multiple times throughout the day. It sounds like Jenna is getting back to being Jenna-- she's got lots to do and laying in the bed interfers with playing!! :) Hang in there and try to relax a little and rest- I know that can't be easy for you now!! Can't wait to see her again...it will only be a short time before she will be in the bathroom sink soaking wet!! Jennifer Ball
